Terms of use.
These terms cover aevum.my, the Aevum app and the Aevum Merchant app, operated by Aevum Digital Solutions (SSM 202603076487 (KT0610495-K)), Ipoh, Malaysia.
Last updated 23 October 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and Aevum. By using the website you agree to the website sections. You accept the full terms when you create an account or make a purchase in the app, by tapping “I agree”. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or send us forms.
Who we are
The website aevum.my, the Aevum app and the Aevum Merchant app are operated by Aevum Digital Solutions (SSM 202603076487 (KT0610495-K)), Ipoh, Malaysia.
General email: hi@aevum.my. Data protection: dpo@aevum.my. Website: www.aevum.my.
What we offer: a cultural guide app that is free to download, with optional paid stories and subscriptions, and an app for venues and event organisers to manage their listings.
The website
You may read the site, share links, and send us a message. You may not scrape it in a way that breaks the service, pretend to be Aevum, or send unlawful material through a form. The full rules are under “Content you share”.
Guides are written in good faith. Hours, dates and access rules can change. Check the venue before you travel. We do not publish ticket prices or menu prices.
This website is not a checkout. Aevum does not take payment on the website.
Purchases and subscriptions
Aevum is free to download, with in-app purchases or subscriptions.
- Some stories and features need a one-off purchase or a subscription. Before you pay, the app store shows the price, including any applicable taxes, what is included and, for a subscription, the billing period.
- Payment is taken by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) through your store account.
- Auto-renewal: a subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your store account is charged within the 24 hours before renewal.
- Free trials: if a trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Cancel at any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app or your Aevum account does not cancel a subscription.
- Price changes: we will tell you in advance through the store, and where required you will be asked to agree before a higher price applies.
- Refunds: requests are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com; Google: play.google.com/store/account). If content you bought does not work, contact us at hi@aevum.my and we will help fix it or support your refund request. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
Using the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on your own devices for personal, non-commercial purposes under these terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer (except where the law allows it), resell, or remove proprietary notices from the app or its content, or use it to build a competing service. Paid content is licensed to you for personal use. It is not sold to you.
Maps from TomTom. Maps and related map content in Aevum are licensed to us by TomTom and its suppliers. You may use them only for your own personal, non-commercial use within Aevum. You must not copy, resell or redistribute them; remove or hide any copyright, trademark or other notice; use Aevum to create or help create a digital map database (for example road geometry and street names, turn-by-turn routing data, or coordinates of individual addresses); provide competitive information about TomTom to others; or use the maps for in-flight or drone navigation or in any high-risk system critical to the health, safety or security of people or property. The map content is TomTom’s confidential information, and TomTom may audit compliance with these terms. The map content is provided “as is” and “with all faults”; TomTom and its suppliers disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including non-infringement, merchantability, satisfactory quality, accuracy, title and fitness for a particular purpose, and no advice from TomTom or its agents creates a warranty. Neither TomTom nor its suppliers will be liable to you for any incidental, consequential, special, indirect or exemplary damages, including lost profits, costs of cover, loss of use or business interruption, even if advised of the possibility, and TomTom and its suppliers have no monetary liability to you for any cause under or relating to these terms. TomTom is an intended third-party beneficiary of this paragraph and may enforce it directly against you. Nothing in this paragraph limits Aevum’s own responsibilities to you under these Terms or Malaysian law.
Apple and Google
These terms are between you and Aevum only, not Apple or Google. Aevum, not Apple or Google, is responsible for the app and its content. Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded or Google-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the store’s usage rules. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app does not meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent the law permits, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Aevum, not Apple, is responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer-protection or privacy claims, and claims that the app infringes someone’s intellectual property. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a government embargo and not on a government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Listings are information, not a promise that a venue is open, quiet, or able to take a booking. Claiming a listing is covered below.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 to use the visitor app. If you are 13 to 17, you may use the app and make purchases only with a parent or guardian’s consent, and they are responsible for your use. The Merchant app is only for adults (18 or over) who are authorised to act for a business.
- Keep your sign-in details secure. Tell us at hi@aevum.my if you think your account has been misused.
- You can ask us to delete your account by writing to dpo@aevum.my. Cancel any subscription in your store settings first. Deleting the app or the account does not cancel a subscription.
- We may suspend or close an account if it seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, is used for fraud or unlawful activity, or if the law requires it. Unless telling you would be unlawful or would create a security risk, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. If we close your account without a good reason, we will help you seek a pro-rata refund of any unused paid period.
Venues, organisers and claiming a listing
Until separate Merchant Terms are published, this section applies to business users, including listing claims.
- Claiming a listing. If you claim a listing, you confirm you are authorised to act for that venue or organiser. We may ask for proof, such as an SSM certificate, a letter of authority or a business email, and we may refuse or withdraw a claim. A claim is approved only when we confirm it in writing.
- Accuracy. You must keep the listing and event information accurate, lawful and up to date, including opening hours, prices (including taxes and fees), access rules and any safety or health certification the law requires. Do not publish misleading descriptions or prices.
- Your offers are your responsibility. If you sell tickets, bookings or products, the contract for them is between you and the visitor. You are responsible for delivering them, for your own refund policy, and for consumer-law compliance, including the information you must disclose under the Consumer Protection (Electronic Trade Transactions) Regulations 2024.
- Content licence. You give Aevum a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, translate, format and promote the content you submit, in the app, on aevum.my and in Aevum’s own marketing, for as long as the listing is live and for a reasonable time afterwards so we can remove it from caches and from materials already printed.
- Moderation. We may edit for format, translate, or remove a listing that breaks these terms or the law.
- Statistics about listings. Our aggregated reports may include figures about listed places, such as views, saves and visits. They never include your verification documents or other non-public business information.
Your responsibility for your promotions and content. You are responsible for your listing content, promotions, coupons and offers, and for honouring them. You agree to pay us back for any losses, damages, fines, and reasonable costs (including reasonable legal fees) that we incur because of a claim by someone else (including a visitor, another business or a regulator) arising from:
(a) a promotion, coupon or offer you publish, including failing to honour it or its terms;
(b) content you submit, including any claim that it is false, misleading, defamatory or infringes someone’s rights;
(c) your claim to a listing, if you were not authorised to make it; or
(d) your breach of these terms or of the law, including consumer-protection and price-display rules.
We will tell you promptly about any such claim, let you take part in handling it, and not settle it in a way that admits fault on your behalf without your agreement (which you will not unreasonably withhold). This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by our own breach, negligence or wilful misconduct.
Liability to business users. If you use Aevum for a business (including claiming or managing a listing or posting promotions), the Consumer Protection Act 1999 does not apply to that use, to the extent the law allows. Apart from the exceptions below, our total liability to your business for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in that period or RM500. We are not liable to your business for loss of profit, revenue, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any liability the law does not allow us to limit.
Content you share
You keep ownership of text, photos and reviews you send us. You confirm you own them or have permission to share them, and that people shown in photos have agreed to be shown. You give Aevum a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, host, reproduce, translate, adapt for display and publish that content in connection with the service, including showing your display name, until you delete it, and for a reasonable time afterwards so we can remove it from backups and from materials already made. We will ask you separately before we use your content in paid advertising.
Do not use Aevum to:
- post anything unlawful, false, defamatory, obscene, menacing or offensive, including content prohibited by the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, or anything that is hateful about race, religion or royalty;
- harass anyone;
- impersonate a person, a venue or Aevum;
- post spam or malware;
- scrape the service in a way that harms it;
- try to get around payments or security;
- submit a fake or unauthorised listing claim.
Report content to hi@aevum.my. If you believe content infringes your copyright, send a notice with your details, the work, where the content is, and a statement that the information is accurate. We will act on a valid notice in line with the Copyright Act 1987. We may remove content and suspend an account that breaks these rules.
Our content
The Aevum name, the mark, and the text on this site and in the apps belong to Aevum Digital Solutions or to the people credited. You may quote a short passage with a link. You may not copy a whole guide onto another site.
Visiting places
Many places in Aevum are places of worship, heritage sites or private property. Follow their rules, dress codes and opening times, and respect local customs. Your safety when travelling is your own responsibility. Follow official advice and signs on site. Maps, directions and links to other sites or apps are there for convenience. We do not control them, and their own terms apply.
Stories and place information
How stories are made. Many stories in Aevum are researched and drafted with the help of artificial intelligence, using public sources. A member of our team reviews and edits every story before it is published. Facts are checked with automated tools (AI-assisted fact-checking), not one by one by a person. We work to make them accurate and respectful, but they may contain mistakes, simplify complex history, or reflect one view of events that people remember differently. Stories are for general interest. They are not historical, religious, legal or professional advice, and they do not speak for any community, venue or religious body.
Where place information comes from. Place details in Aevum come from a mix of sources: Foursquare’s open places data (modified by us), information supplied by venues, Aevum’s own research, and stories written with the help of AI. Opening hours, prices, photos and other details can change without notice and may be out of date or wrong. Please check important details directly with the venue before you travel. If something is wrong, tap “Report an error”.
Halal information. A “Halal verified” tick means only that the venue gave us a halal certificate and we reviewed it when it was uploaded. Aevum is not a halal certification body. Certificates expire and can be suspended or withdrawn, so please confirm the current status on JAKIM’s official Halal Malaysia Portal (www.halal.gov.my, “Verify Halal Status”) or with the venue. Places without the tick make no halal claim in Aevum. This does not mean they are not halal; it means we have not verified a certificate. Aevum does not show halal information from Foursquare, reviews or other public sources.
Maps. Maps are provided by TomTom and are subject to the map terms in “Maps from TomTom” and the notices in Data sources & licences.
Report an error. If something is wrong, incomplete or culturally insensitive, tap “Report an error” on the story or place, or email hi@aevum.my. We aim to review reports within 5 working days and correct or remove content where needed. Venues can also correct their own details by claiming their listing.
Our responsibility to you
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Guides describe places in good faith, but opening hours, events, prices, access and conditions are set by venues and can change. Check with the venue before you travel.
We are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, for a venue’s own business losses, or for problems caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as a network outage, app-store downtime or a venue closure.
Apart from the liability described in the next paragraph, our total liability to you for all claims about the service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the greater of:
(a) the total amount you paid for Aevum purchases and subscriptions, through the App Store or Google Play, in the 12 months before the event that led to the claim; or
(b) RM200.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:
(a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
(b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
(c) gross negligence or wilful misconduct;
(d) any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, including the guarantees for services in Part VIII, that cannot be excluded or limited; or
(e) our obligations under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, or any other liability that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the law or the service changes. We will post the new version with a new date. For a significant change, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using the service and cancel any subscription before the change takes effect.
Complaints and disputes
Please contact us first at hi@aevum.my, so we can try to resolve your complaint.
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. If we cannot resolve a complaint, you may bring a claim before the Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia, where the claim is within its limit, or before the courts of Malaysia. If you are a consumer, nothing here stops you from using any other right or forum the law gives you.
General
- Language. These terms are published in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese. If the English and translated versions differ, the English version prevails.
- Electronic notices. We may give you notices in the app, by email or on this website. Those count as written notices.
- If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest stays in force. If we do not enforce a term immediately, we can still enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a business that takes over the service, and your rights will not be reduced.
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Aevum about the service, together with any Merchant Terms once those are published.
